Assignment Description:
For this assignment, students will closely read and transcribe correspondence from archival collections. Once students have finished transcribing a letter, they will break out into discussion groups to reflect on the process, the subject matter of the correspondence, and to compare and contrast the different types of information gained from primary and secondary sources. This assignment can be adapted for courses in English, History, Political Science, and other humanities disciplines.
Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:

⚬ Read and analyze primary source materials.
⚬ Gain experience with digital artifacts.
⚬ Contribute to the discoverability of the digitalized archival collections at the AUC Robert W. Woodruff Library Archives Research Center.
⚬ Transcribe handwritten archival documents.
